We love using our XOs as part of our Guided Reading rotations. Here are some of our wonderful sentences and matching pictures using the activity 'paint'. What do you think?
On Tuesdays we go to the library. First we spend some time using the computers. We are getting really good at logging in by ourselves. Sometimes it can still be a bit tricky to press alt, control and delete at the same time because our hands are small! Next we have our lesson with Miss Campbell. We love visiting the library and borrowing. We need to remember to bring our library bags to borrow on Tuesday because we want to win the borrowing competition for this term. To remind us to bring our library bags, Mrs Hayes made us a paper watch reminder! Did you borrow from the library this week?
Our Accelerated Literacy (AL) text this term is 'Big Rain Coming' By Katrina Germein. Can you read our HOLO?
The fat green frogs huddled around the leaky tap on the rain-water tank. Then on Friday evening the thick grey clouds over the hills were echoing with thunder. Do you like our fat green frogs? Today in Maths we revised our ‘friends of ten’. We each got given a number card. Then we got to turn the card around and try to find our matching partner to make ten. When we found our ‘friend of ten’ partner we had to join arms and sit down together. Next we had to recall and record our 'friends of ten' in our books. Mrs Hayes gave us some sticky foam numbers which we used. We are so clever to know our number combinations to ten!
Help! Mrs Hayes is really thirsty! Which cup/container should she fill with water? Why? We drew the containers on the Smart board and had a think, then a vote. Marina is holding the 'blue' container, Bailey is holding the 'red' container and Mokai is holding the 'green' container. WE THINK: Not the blue container because it is too small. The green container is bigger than the red container so it will fit more water. Hmmm... Let's see if we are right! We went outside to use some water to find out. Mrs Hayes carefully poured the water into each container so we could check. I bet you can't wait to find out what we learnt! WE LEARNED: The red container is bigger than than the green. It is shorter but it is 'fatter' and or 'wider' so it holds more water. SO Mrs Hayes should fill and drink from the red container! We went inside and recorded our results. But first, we used our left over water to water the plants. They were really thirsty on this hot day too! Thanks Noah for your fantastic photography work today!
All schools in NSW are currently developing their new School Plans and directions for 2015 and the next 3 year time frame. As part of this process we are looking at what is important to us at Norths. This includes our motto, 'Work Earnestly, Live Honestly', and our school vision, 'A community with Expectations of Achievements and Success'. We are seeking the opinions of our staff, students and parents to ensure we can provide the best education for our students for years to come. We have developed an online survey to collect the thoughts and ideas from all members of our school community. No names are required. Essentially, the school is trying to find information in the following areas:
Below is the survey that you may wish to complete. Thank you for your assistance in planning the future of our school. Together we can make St Marys North even better! Today we were learning about data and making graphs...we also got to have a special treat! First, we got a box of smarties to decorate a gingerbread house in our books (that was just for some fun). Next, we used our smarties to make a graph. Then we talked about which colour had the most and which colour had the least. It was tricky because everyone had different colour combinations in their box. We recorded our results in our books. Finally we got to eat all of our Smarties! They were really yum! We have enjoyed going and checking on our sunflowers throughout the term. They are growing big and strong. On the mufti day yesterday, before the storms in the afternoon, we went to look at all of the beautiful flowers that have grown. Some of the sunflower plants have even grown taller then Jaydaleah and Scarlett! Have you seen our sunflower plants? Are they taller than you too? Today we celebrated Halloween by creating some goofy pumpkin artworks! Check them out: Today we had a culture class lesson with Mr Tangye. We got to learn about the different ways Aborignal people used plants. We also got to help plant two plants in the garden. |
